Last week I visited a forensic psychiatry institute in Hadamar (lies between Frankfurt and Cologne, Germany) were in the time of the National Socialist regime many people with physical and mental handicaps have been killed. The place was called the NS-Tötungsanstalt Hadamar. In 1941 the mental hospital was converted into a place where mentally weak people from all over Germany were transported and killed. 14.500 people lost there lives at Hadamar. While these people got killed on purpose their family members got letters from the clinic obscuring it, stating the patients had died from an (invented) illness.
Now the buildings around the former Tötungsanstalt accommodate a forensic clinic where people with drug problems are getting therapy.
A very strange and sad place, but worth a visit.
